Her Purpose Is People: The Story of Lovey Sometimes the people you meet unexpectedly are carrying stories you never could have imagined. I met Lovey when she got into my Uber on her way to a recording session. We started talking, and before the ride was over I knew I wanted to hear more of her story — and I wanted other people to hear it too. Lovey is a Philadelphia-area singer and performer whose life is rooted in family, faith and music. In this conversation, she shares her account of a devastating medical crisis, major surgery, cancer, recovery, and the spiritual experience she says changed the way she looks at her life and purpose. I spend a lot of time driving around Philadelphia, and every day people get into my car carrying lives, experiences, struggles, successes, ideas, and stories that I know absolutely nothing about when the ride begins. Sometimes all it takes is a conversation. In this episode, I talk about a realization I’ve been slowly working toward: Electric Pete may be less about me having something to say and more about discovering the people I meet and helping some of them tell their stories. A recent encounter brought that idea into focus. One ride became a conversation. That conversation became an invitation to sit down behind the microphone. And suddenly, The People I Meet meant something different to me. There are extraordinary stories hiding inside seemingly ordinary encounters. You just have to keep your ears open.
