On January 15, 1947, a young mother was out for a walk with her 3-year-old daughter when she came upon a gruesome scene. Up ahead, she saw what she thought was a mannequin, but as she approached, the scene became much more grim.
This witness had just discovered the lifeless body of 22-year old Elizabeth Short, a woman who had gone missing the day before as she was on her way to meet her sister, Elizabeth had been brutally murdered, while her body was severely mutilated beyond comprehension. She was quickly labeled the "Black Dahlia" by the news media, due to similar comparisons between her lifestyle and the plot of a popular movie at the time. Elizabeth's murder remains unsolved today and to be honest, it may never be solved.
