This is a conversation with Jared, owner of Salce hot sauce company in Queen Creek, Arizona, discussing his business journey and experiences. Jared explained how he transitioned from a 10-year career in video game design at companies like Saints Row and Disney to starting a hot sauce business with his wife in 2019. The couple began making hot sauce as a hobby, starting with a pineapple jalapeno recipe, and grew the business during COVID-19 when demand increased. Jared detailed the challenges of obtaining a commercial kitchen license and constructing a dedicated space on his residential property, which took eight months and required working with a contractor who obtained his commercial license during the process. He described their current product lineup including pineapple jalapeno, habanero, raspberry chipotle, and watermelon Fresno sauces. The conversation also covered Jared's gardening experiences in Arizona, including challenges with sun exposure and monsoon weather, and his positive experiences working with the Queen Creek community and local farming operations.
