The receptive mind includes the heart instruments of intuition and imagination. This mind “enters into,” by perceiving, receiving impressions and intuitions, and taking in revelation. It has to do with how we know God and how we know others. The receptive heart is so important because it’s how we take in the Lord, how we connect deeply with Him and others. The rational mind uses logic and analysis to measure, unpack, store data, make logical connections and understand. With our intellect, we can put into words what we have entered into and know with our receptive mind. The two minds are created to operate in tandem, but we often have one mind overactive and one dormant, creating an imbalance and schism between the two.
