Missouri approved a controlled cultural event for roughly 50,000 people. The advertising, lineup and ticket orders pointed toward something many times larger. In Part One, Doc G and the Discussants reconstruct how the 1974 Ozark Music Festival changed before opening—and the Professor recalls the conditions in Sedalia and entering the enormous temporary city that formed when the roads, gates and admission system collapsed.
