Valley West Mall has a new owner. Threshold Capital, a West Des Moines-based developer and real estate investment company, has acquired the embattled mall after the property was foreclosed on and put up for sale earlier this year. The company plans to remove the remaining tenants, secure the property and address hazardous materials as it prepares for a potential demolition. The mall’s sale occurred earlier this month, but the buyer was not identified until Tuesday. …
Gov. Kim Reynolds has called a special legislative session in response to plans for a $15 billion steel mill in Iowa. Reynolds and other members of Iowa’s congressional delegation joined President Donald Trump at the White House Monday for the announcement that Mesabi Metallics plans to build the massive steel mill. …
Iowa will receive about $2.4 million from a settlement involving Corteva Agriscience. Attorney General Brenna Bird announced Monday that the settlement stems from a Federal Trade Commission and multistate lawsuit alleging Corteva’s loyalty program violated monopoly laws and restricted the sale of lower-priced competing pesticides. …
Around the world, Iran’s currency has fallen to another record low as the war in the Middle East continues to hurt the country’s economic stability. Traders in Tehran were exchanging more than 2.5 million rials for one U.S. dollar Tuesday. …
Around the state, a former Cedar Rapids high school bowling coach has been sentenced to 17 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges involving the grooming and sexual exploitation of a minor. …
And in national news, an attorney for Lindsay Clancy is now questioning whether she killed her three children. Her attorney made the argument Tuesday after a jury deadlocked 11-1 in her favor following her trial. …
In sports: The New York Yankees routed the Boston Red Sox in Game 1 of their wild-card series, while the San Diego Padres beat the Chicago Cubs 8-0 to take a 1-0 series lead. And Caitlin Clark helped the Indiana Fever force a decisive Game 3 against the Las Vegas Aces. Clark recorded a historic double-double as Indiana won 99-89. …
