I was at the pharmacy yesterday. Waiting in line. The person ahead of me was buying exactly two things. A bottle of ibuprofen and a bag of cough drops. The cashier said have a good day. The person said you too. And I thought about that exchange the whole way home. Because that's most of our days. Moving through necessary stops. Picking up what we need. Brief exchanges with people we'll probably never see again.
