A deadline, a new baby, a red-eye, or a night that just never handed you sleep. However you got here, you are coming up on twenty-four hours awake and wondering what it is doing to you.

We walk the shape of a single sleepless day and night — including the finding with the strongest data behind it and the one people find hardest to believe: at around twenty-four hours awake, performance matches a blood alcohol concentration of roughly 0.10 percent. The US legal limit is 0.08. Not to alarm you, but because knowing the shape tells you which hours to be careful in.
