FATHER’S DAY SPECIAL: El Dorado (1966)

With both Sharee’s and Audrey’s fathers being cancer survivors, this coming Father’s Day is very important to them. Howard Hawks’s 1966 western El Dorado, starring John Wayne, was one that a young Audrey would frequently watch with her father, and despite being panned by critics as an “old man’s movie,” it was a box office hit. Listen as Audrey and Sharee discuss how much filmmaking and writing have changed over the last sixty years. DISCLAIMER: This movie contains outdated and offensive scenes. Rather than avoiding them, we feel it is more helpful to acknowledge that they are not appropriate and to move forward. This film was made sixty years ago, and it no longer reflects how we think and behave as a society. Visibility and acknowledgement are more helpful than erasure.
