Can plasma wash fresh produce? Surprisingly, yes — and there are several ways to do it.

In this video, I kick off a new “Can Plasma?” series by looking at how plasma can be used to disinfect fresh produce like strawberries, spinach, and other foods that are difficult to clean with traditional methods. I talk about direct plasma treatment, why high voltage creates practical challenges, and how plasma-treated water or plasma-activated fog can offer a different approach.

We’ll cover why strawberries are such a difficult disinfection target, how plasma creates reactive oxygen and nitrogen species in water, and why the real challenge is not whether plasma works — but whether it can be made commercially practical.

If you have a “Can plasma…?” question, leave it in the comments.
