While other young people were hiding relationships, changing the way they talked, or terrified that being honest could cost them their family, Storm grew up with something many Black gay boys never experience:

Permission to exist exactly as he was.

His mother didn’t shame him. She didn’t make him feel like something was wrong with him. She looked at her son and asked the question before he could even say the words:

“When are you going to tell me that you’re gay?”

And that moment may have changed the trajectory of his entire life.
