Galatians 1:6–12

Psalm 111:1b–2, 7–9, 10c

Luke 10:25–37

Paul refuses to bend the message just to make it easier to sell. The psalm praises what is true and lasting. Then Jesus answers a man who wants to define the limits of neighborly duty by telling a story about somebody who stopped, spent his own money, and took responsibility for a stranger. That gets practical fast. I can make mercy theoretical right up until it costs me time, inconvenience, or cash. The Samaritan didn’t win an argument about compassion; he did the work. There are times to hold a line and times to cross a road, but both require me to care more about what is right than what makes me look right. Faithfulness has a way of showing up in the bill.
