Adult Learners and Student Veterans, especially those raising children, must increase their understanding of violence in our society. The ongoing exposure to shootings, rapes, murders, and conflicts in our world is difficult to avoid if you use the Internet, watch TV, or attend school. Let’s continue encouraging each other to “make sense of the senseless” and seek to understand and minimize the tragedies of the many innocents like Trayvon Martin, Christopher Lane, Syrian children, and our Veterans. Much of the violence we are experiencing in schools is blamed on students diagnosed with a mental disorder. However, society must take on some responsibility for the exposure to violence in early childhood.
