Isaiah 13:1 - 14:32

- An oracle against Babylon: the day of the Lord is near; the proud are brought low.

- The king of Babylon falls like the morning star. The Lord breaks the staff of the wicked and will again choose Israel.

Romans 9:1-29

- Paul has great sorrow for his kinsmen according to the flesh. Not all who are descended from Israel belong to Israel.

- God's purpose of election stands — mercy on whom he has mercy. He has called us not from the Jews only but also from the Gentiles.
