Dr. Oyer discusses his team’s study comparing traditional opioid-based pain management with a standardized multimodal ERAS pathway after open septorhinoplasty. The ERAS protocol—incorporating tramadol, celecoxib, prednisone, and acetaminophen—was associated with significantly lower patient-reported pain during the first postoperative week without increased opioid consumption. We discuss practical strategies for multimodal pain control, opportunities to reduce reliance on stronger opioids after rhinoplasty, and how standardized postoperative protocols may improve the patient recovery experience.
