Nine years before COVID, Anthony Fauci told a colleague at his own institute to destroy an email about gain-of-function research: "Please delete this e-mail and then delete from the deleted file." That is not a paraphrase. It is a verbatim record, released by Senator Rand Paul and first reported by Emily Kopp at the Daily Caller News Foundation, written the morning after Fauci complained to NIH director Francis Collins about a New York Times writer who had warned the research could produce an "engineered doomsday." The Daily Signal notes that destroying federal records is a violation of federal law. Fauci testified under oath to Congress in 2024 that he never destroyed official records.
