2 White Girls Talk Bollywood
Temporada 1
por Kim Hughes & Katie Babione
Everyone loves Shah Rukh Khan-- that's why we devoted a whole month to talking about his movies! But what happens when that love transitions into obsession? Fan sets out to explore exactly that. And though King Khan isn't officially playing himself in this one, there are certainly elements of the film that feel almost autobiographical. Alongside SRK, Fan stars Shriya Pilgaonkar, Deepika Amin, and Yogendra Tikku. It was written and directed by Maneesh Sharma. Like what you're hearing? There's no denying that DDLJ is a timeless classic. But who doesn't love a well-executed contemporary take? Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania is exactly that: a film that manages to offer twists and turns on the story we all love, while still ringing true to the original. Come fall in love all over again! Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania stars Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt. It was written and directed by Shashank Khaitan. Like what you're hearing? 20 years after DDLJ, Shah Rukh and Kajol teamed up for another masterpiece: Dilwale. In this case, we're defining "masterpiece" as a fairly goofy action movie with a few good fight scenes and LOTS of fancy cars. Dilwale makes up for its lack of emotional depth in bright colors, a fabulous soundtrack, and a five minute date scene that will tug at your heartstrings. Dilwale also has an all-star cast besides its two leads: Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon, Boman Irani, Johnny Lever, and Pankaj Tripathi. It was directed by Rohit Shetty. Like what you're hearing? There's no better way to start our month-long celebration of SRK's birthday than with the film that started it all, that shot him from movie star to global sensation! DDLJ is one of those once-in-a-generation films that perfectly spoke to the cultural moment in which it was created, while still feeling highly relevant to this day, nearly 3 decades later. Shah Rukh Khan is matched in wonderfulness with his number one on-screen partner-in-crime, Kajol, and the dynamic duo is joined by Anupam Kher, Amrish Puri, and Farida Jalal. It was Aditya Chopra's directorial debut. Like what you're hearing? Remember to follow us on TikTok & Instagram @2whitegirlstalkbollywood. Can't get enough Bollywood? Happy Halloween, everyone! Or should we say... Howl-oween?!? We're wrapping up spooky season with Bhediya, a film that dares to ask just how much toilet humor can you fit into a movie about werewolves? The answer is, more than you'd think. But this film's also got a lot of heart, and ultimately reminds us of the power, beauty, and importance of the natural world. Bhediya stars Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon, Abhishek Banerjee, and Palin Kabak. It was directed by Amar Kaushik. Like what you're hearing? Is a ghost romance really an appropriate film choice for spooky season? If you ask us, the answer is YES! Especially if that ghost romance stars our favorite Bollywood boy, has gorgeous music and costumes, and fully transports you into a world of folklore. Get ready to be swept off your feet by this one! Paheli stars Rani Mukerji, Shah Rukh Khan, Anupam Kher, and Juhi Chawla. It was directed by Amol Palekar, based on a story by Vijayadan Detha. Like what you're hearing? This week's spooky movie is, at it's heart, a romance. And as we all know, love can be dangerous. Especially when the person you're falling in love with might be a vengeful spirit wreaking havoc on your home town and abducting your friends. Stree delivers a few important insights about love, alongside some good jump scares and shivers down your spine. It stars Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurana, and Abhishek Banerjee. It was written by Raj & DK, and directed by Amar Kaushik. Like what you're hearing? Our second pick for Spooky Season might skew a bit more silly than spooky... But it still has all the ghostly hijinks we crave! Not to mention a train car slumber party, an ill-fated cricket match, and a "fashion show" (with much greater emphasis on the show than the fashion). Chamatkar stars our favorite guy, Shah Rukh Khan, in one of his earliest films! It's also got Naseerudin Shah and Urmila, and was directed by Rajiv Mehra and written by Shaukat Baig. We're kicking off October (aka Spooky Season) with a very seasonally-appropriate flick! Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 has ghosts, witches, crows, black cats, blood rituals, and plenty of hair-raising, spine-tingling thrills. But off course, it's Bollywood, so we've also got romance, mistaken identity, fabulous costumes, and some real bangers. Basically, there's something here for every fall aesthetic! Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 stars Kartik Aaryan, Kiara Advani, and Tabu. It was directed by Anees Bazmee, and written by Aakash Kaushik. Like what you're hearing? Every family has its problems. Sometimes it's infidelity, sometimes it's parents who disregard their child's accomplishments, and sometimes it's your dad selling your beloved airplane. Unfortunately for the Mehras, they've got to grapple with all three of these classic family dynamics. Fortunately for the rest of us, watching them do so is completely delightful. Dil Dhadakne Do was written by Reema Kagti and Zoya Akhtar, who also directed. The star-studded cast includes Anil Kapoor, Shefali Shah, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Ranveer Singh, Anushka Sharma, and Farhan Akhtar. Like what you're hearing?
