Cabinet Door Styles 2027: What to Spec
IA
There is a hard floor on how narrow a Shaker rail can go, and it is set by the hinge, not by taste. Almost nobody publishes it. In this episode we go through the six cabinet door profiles worth specifying going into 2027, what the industry data actually measures, and where we think the market moves next. We keep those two things apart on purpose, because nobody has real 2027 numbers yet and plenty of articles pretend they do. TIMESTAMPS (measured from the merged file, not estimated): 0:00 - Intro 0:23 - Why door style is not a taste question 0:48 - There are only three cabinet door styles 1:46 - Inset is an installation method, not a door style 2:11 - Flat slab and the 69% number 2:55 - Where slab goes wrong on install 3:19 - Slim Shaker and the euro hinge floor 3:52 - What cabinet shops actually specify 4:36 - Wood grain overtakes paint 5:10 - What is actually replacing grey 6:03 - Fluted and glass, accent only 6:45 - Our 2027 read, clearly labelled 7:19 - Colour moves onto the cabinet 8:05 - Availability beats aesthetics, and lead times 8:59 - Takeaways 9:39 - Close SHOW NOTES: Verified figures cited in this episode, with sources and sample sizes: - 69% of professionals named flat slab a growing style (NKBA 2026 Kitchen Trends Report, 634 North American kitchen and bath professionals) - 72% specifying panel-faced refrigeration, 85% panel-faced dishwashers (NKBA 2026) - 59% call wood grain a growing finish, white oak top species at 51% (NKBA 2026) - Wood cabinetry 29% vs white 28%, the first time wood has edged ahead (Houzz 2026 US Kitchen Trends Study, 1,780 homeowners) - Rust +178%, chocolate brown +153%, mushroom +69%, olive +57% (Houzz 2026) - Sandstone searches +257%, Venetian plaster +94% (Houzz 2026) - Shop consensus on Shaker rail width: 2.25 to 2.625 inches (r/Cabinetry) Everything about 2027 in this episode is labelled as projection. The full NKBA 2027 report has not been publicly released, and there are no published 2027 percentages anywhere. As of recording, neither Benjamin Moore nor Pantone has released a 2027 colour of the year, and Sherwin-Williams published a forecast called Rewild rather than a single colour. Treat any article claiming otherwise with suspicion. Lead times quoted are supplier snapshots checked September 2026, not an industry benchmark. Bathroom Vanities: What the Standard Actually Tests
IA
The certification standard every bathroom vanity in America is sold against tests a door. It does not test the box. In this episode we give you all three answers up front. One, every moisture test in ANSI/KCMA A161.1 is run on a door, a door edge or a finished surface. Nothing tests the sides, the back, the deck or the toe kick, which are the parts that actually get wet. Two, the plumbing code fixes exactly two numbers: 21 inches of clear floor in front of the sink and the toilet, and 15 inches from either centreline to a side wall or a vanity. Three, water does not get in through the surface. It gets in at the cut edges. Then we go through what the badges on a product page really mean, the sum that tells you the widest vanity your bathroom can take, why nobody has ever published a vanity depth, why the ADA number people quote is a maximum and not a target, what the drain does to your drawer plans, and where our own brand stops short. Timestamps: 0:25 The three answers, up front 1:11 The standard tests a door 2:09 The vanity back exception 2:50 What the badges actually mean 4:23 Where the water gets in 5:06 The two code numbers 6:34 The vanity depth rule that does not exist 7:17 Height, and why nobody standardised it 8:03 Accessible vanities and the 34 inch maximum 9:24 Where Fabuwood stops short Full written version with the standard quoted clause by clause and scale diagrams at istcabinets dot com slash bathroom dash vanities. Small Kitchen Remodeling: Why Online Costs And Real Quotes Are Both True
IA
The internet says a small kitchen remodel costs $10,000. Contractors quote $35,000. Both numbers are real, and understanding why is the difference between a budget and a disappointment. In this episode of The Remodel Report, Chris and Jessica break down the 2026 cost tiers for 70-100 square foot kitchens, the 42-inch rule that decides whether your layout works, the four cabinet moves that make small kitchens outwork big ones, the honest island verdict, and whether a small kitchen remodel pays back at resale. Frameless Kitchen Cabinets: What You Gain and Give Up
IA
Frameless kitchen cabinets, also called full access or European construction, are sold on storage. This episode argues that is the wrong reason to choose them. What you gain is access: roughly an inch and a half to an inch and three quarters more opening on a base cabinet, and the ability to run a drawer or roll out pantry up to 36 inches wide with no center partition, where framed construction generally needs a center stile past about 24 inches. What you give up is roughly 8 to 15 percent on the price of the boxes, any possibility of inset doors in a semi custom line, and three things nobody raises in a showroom: the front edge you see between the doors is the box edge banding rather than a finished frame, crown molding and under cabinet lighting need build up strips to land on, and that banded edge takes the knocks a solid wood frame would otherwise absorb. What actually decides it is your walls. A face frame is a tolerance budget, giving every door a local reference and letting an installer hide an out of plumb wall behind a stile. Frameless spends that budget on access. ANSI/AWI 0620 requires installation plumb and level within an eighth of an inch over eight feet, and caps a flush overlay frameless reveal at about an eighth of an inch. A Blum hinge returns plus or minus 2mm of side adjustment. The hinge absorbs a reveal error; it cannot absorb a racked box. We also cover why published storage figures range from 4 percent to 20 percent, why frameless is not harder to install but is harder to install badly, the two questions to ask any installer bidding the job, the difference between Fabuwood Illume and Ovela that actually matters, and a correction on whether frameless can take inset doors. Your Cabinet Warranty Doesn't Cover This (The 30–50 Humidity Rule)
IA
If humidity swells or warps your cabinet doors, the manufacturer calls it normal wood behavior, and the warranty does not cover it. That one fact changes how seriously you take the air in your kitchen. In this episode of The Remodel Report, Chris and Jessica cover the exact relative humidity band the EPA and cabinet manufacturers agree on, the 60-second pattern test that separates humidity damage from a plumbing leak, why your coffee maker is quietly cooking the cabinet above it, and the three-part routine that protects the sink base, the cabinet that always fails first. Your New Shower Has a 90-Day Window. Here's What Nobody Tells You
IA
Your new shower has a window that closes and nobody tells you about it. The glass has never met hard water. The grout has never been sealed. The silicone is still curing. Everything that goes wrong with a shower over the next decade traces back to something done, or skipped, in the first few days. Then the crew leaves and hands you nothing. In this episode Chris and Jessica go through the whole sequence in order: why silicone rather than grout is what actually gates your first shower, why grout haze is not hard water and what happens when you treat it like it is, the solvent trap that clears your glass and quietly attacks your seal, and the one window where a protective coating bonds properly to virgin glass. Every number in this episode comes from a manufacturer data sheet. All of them are linked below so you can check them against the products in your own shower. CHAPTERS 00:00 Why a new shower needs an owner's manual 01:20 The first thing to do is nothing 02:10 Silicone, not grout, is what gates your first shower 03:25 Tack-free vs water-ready vs fully cured 05:10 The real numbers from GE, DAP and Gorilla 06:40 Why 30 minutes and 24 hours are both correct 07:30 Grout haze is not hard water 08:45 The leftover-tile comparison test 09:40 How to remove haze without wrecking new tile 11:00 The 10-day rule, and the myth about it 12:15 If there's natural stone in your shower, stop 14:00 Silicone smears on brand new glass 15:10 The solvent trap nobody writes about 16:05 Razor blades and coated glass 17:20 Construction dust is an abrasive 18:30 The coating window 20:15 Why a coating doesn't replace the squeegee 21:40 What to ask before the van pulls away FULL WRITTEN GUIDE, with a 90-day timeline you can save: https://www.usacabinetstore.com/how-to-clean-new-shower-after-remodel ALREADY CLOUDY? Your Shower Glass Might Not Be Dirty. It Might Be Damaged.
Most cloudy shower glass advice is solving the wrong problem. In this episode of The Remodel Report, Chris and Jessica break down why cloudy shower glass is actually TWO completely different conditions that look identical, how to tell which one you have in about sixty seconds, and why the most popular cleaning hack on the internet cancels itself out chemically. We cover the two-stage corrosion process that turns clear glass permanently hazy, the dwell-time trick professionals use instead of buying stronger chemicals, a product-by-product verdict on Bar Keepers Friend, CLR, Magic Eraser and steel wool, and the honest answer for when cleaning is finished and replacement is the better call. Florida's New Permit Law Won't Cover Your Bathroom
IA
Kissimmee is two cities wearing one name. Along the Disney corridor you have vacation rentals in ChampionsGate, Reunion, and Storey Lake. Drive the other way and you are in Buenaventura Lakes and Poinciana, where families live. Same town, two completely different bathrooms, two completely different budgets. In this episode Chris and Jessica cover: - Why Kissimmee is the most affordable bathroom remodel in the Orlando metro, and what the five cost tiers actually look like - The permit trap: a "Kissimmee, FL" mailing address usually is NOT inside the City of Kissimmee, which changes the portal you file with and can cost you weeks - What Florida House Bill 803 changed on July 1, 2026, and why it does not exempt your bathroom even under $7,500 - The vacation-rental playbook nobody else covers: building for reviews instead of resale, the licensing layer, and the 13.5 percent tax you remit yourself - Florida humidity: porcelain over marble, plywood vanity boxes, exhaust vented outside USA Cabinet Store has served Central Florida since 2011, with 14 showrooms across seven states and an NKBA Innovative Showroom Award from KBIS 2026. A Free Walk-In Shower Simulator for Aging in Place
IA
About 4.1 million Americans are turning 65 every year, and most of them want to stay in the homes they already have. That is reshaping how we design bathrooms, and USA Cabinet Store just launched a free tool to help. On this episode of The Remodel Report, Chris and Jessica break down the Walk-In Shower Layout Simulator, built into the company's 22 Walk-In Shower Ideas in 2026 guide. What we cover: - The two trends behind it: the Peak 65 demographic wave and aging in place, and the industry shift toward larger showers over bathtubs. Per the NKBA 2026 Bath Trends Report, 55 percent of professionals now favor a larger shower over a tub, and 89 percent rank bathroom space as a top priority. - The problem: people pick a shower on looks before checking whether it fits their room, controls splash, and retains warmth. - How the simulator uses your real measurements and planning benchmarks to generate layouts you can bring to a consultation. - The big decisions it helps with: curbless versus curbed, warmth and splash control, and materials. - Why curbless design matters for accessibility, and why testing it first is so useful. IA
Buying kitchen cabinets in 2026? Here's the no-spin guide before you spend a dime. In this episode of The Remodel Report, Chris and Jessica walk through everything that actually drives cost and quality in a kitchen cabinet project: the four cabinet types, framed vs frameless construction, the two specs that separate a cabinet that lasts from one that sags, the 2026 color and style trends, real installed pricing, and how to avoid the high-pressure sales traps homeowners keep running into. TIMESTAMPS 0:00 Intro 0:06 Why cabinets make or break a kitchen 0:40 The 4 cabinet types (RTA, stock, semi-custom, custom) 1:15 Framed vs frameless: the biggest decision 2:00 How to spot a quality cabinet (plywood box + dovetail drawers) 2:45 2026 trends: green, white oak, and warm minimalism 3:25 What kitchen cabinets actually cost in 2026 4:05 Avoiding high-pressure sales and reface-vs-replace mistakes 4:45 The USA Cabinet Store difference (9 lines) 5:15 4 takeaways before you buy 5:45 Wrap-up SHOW NOTES - The 4 types trade price for flexibility: RTA is fastest and cheapest, custom is built to order. - Framed gives you inset and traditional looks; frameless gives you a wider opening and more storage. - Ask two questions before you sign: is the box plywood, and are the drawer boxes dovetail? - NKBA 2026: neutrals still lead, but green is the top accent color at 86%, and white oak is surging. - Installed pricing at USA Cabinet Store: value/stock roughly $15K–$27K, semi-custom $40K–$78K, semi-custom to custom $78K–$155K. - Watch for "sign today" discounts. A real quote still makes sense tomorrow. - USA Cabinet Store carries 9 lines, so the cabinet fits your project, not the other way around.
