On August 28, 2003 a man walked into a PNC Bank in Erie, Pennsylvania with a bomb attached to his body via a metal neck collar. He was stopped by police after leaving the bank and roughly 40 mins after he robbed the bank, the bomb exploded, killing the suspect. A lengthy investigation revealed a sinister plot and to this day there are arguments about whether the man who robbed the bank participated in the planning of the crime to some level or was a completely innocent pizza delivery driver.
