On the morning of June 14, 2024, dangerous criminal Joshua Zimmerman slipped out the backdoor of DeSoto County Courthouse in Hernando, Mississippi, and disappeared for 67 days.

In the days that followed his escape, DeSoto County Sheriff Thomas Tuggle would claim that Zimmerman exploited a security flaw in the buildings design, which later turned out to be an unlocked door on the third floor of the courthouse. The Sheriff would also claim that luck was on Zimmerman’s side that day, as the dangerous criminal was out of the city limits of Hernando in less than 10 minutes. However, it later transpired that Zimmerman had methodically planned his escape and was aided by an outside network.
