Temporada 3
¿Y Si Sí?: Películas De Futbol
Mexico may have not made it to the World Cup finals this time, but the love for the team remains strong as ever! Joey & Armando kick off this episode with 2 Mexican soccer-themed films: Tacos De Oro: El Chido Guan (1986): A beloved street punk called “El Chido Guan”becomes a soccer superstar with the help from a new neighbor whose past is perhaps connected to El Chido Guan. Special guest Sandra Arau appears in our discussion with fond memories of the filming of Tacos De Oro. El Futobolista Fenomeno (1979): Legendary Mexican comedy actor Adalberto Martinez “Resortes” stars in this peculiar family-friendly sci-fi soccer film where he shows the ropes of the game to some quirky extraterrestrials. Much wackiness ensues of course. A little too wacky. Feliz Día del Padre: El extraño Hijo Del Sheriff (1986) & Ratas De La Ciudad (1986)
Feliz Día del Padre a todo los Padres! Fathers love hard & often have to do challenging actions to prove it! Father’s Day has come and Joey & Armando picked two very unique Mexican films about fathers to discuss. Joey discusses the wild Mexican horror-western hybrid El Extraño Hijo Del Sheriff (1986): A strong-armed sheriff has his conjoined twin sons separated and after one of them dies, very unusual & supernatural things begin to happen. Could the dead twin be haunting from the beyond? Or is the living twin doing all the evil deeds? Armando then goes in to the top defining Trash-Mex film Ratas De La Ciudad (1986): After being unfairly separated from his son, a man named Pedro (Valentin Trujillo) goes through a brutal & desperate search for him. His son however has long forgotten about him & is now in a street gang that steal & kill with no mercy. Madres Malditas: Obsesión De Matar (1992) & Esclavas Del Sadismo (1994)
What could be the most vile Trash-Mex movies to watch on Mother’s Day? Well, we got two choices and both involve not so great mothers.. Ismael Rodriguez Jr takes on Psycho IV with a better version: Obsesión De Matar (1992) On a nightly talk radio show, a man nicknamed “Pepe” calls in to discuss his incestuous relationship with his mother that lead into “Matricide” & other brutal murders. The talk show host & guest are skeptical of the caller, but his dark story unfolds to something much more sinister & very personal to someone working on the show. Second feature is Esclavas Del Sadismo (1994), a film that only someone like the late & forever great director Christian Gonzalez would make! An unusual mother lets her son make dirty films in the basement of their apartment building. Sleaze all around, even amongst the law. The most famous vedette from yesteryear & today Lyn May makes her film debut in “Tivoli (1975)”, a social drama about an aging theater on the verge of being torn down. 1980’s Mexican beauty pageant favorite turned actress Lina Santos shows her true acting talents in “La Diosa Del Puerto (1989)”, a gritty drama loosely based on “Le Port” by Guy de Maupassant.
