Through the Church Fathers por C. Michael Patton

Notas del episodio

A virgin promised, a law fulfilled but not ultimate, a God who becomes man, and a grace that carries us from beginning to end—today’s readings press us into one central reality: we cannot save ourselves, and yet God has come near enough to do it for us. Justin Martyr argues relentlessly that Christ is not a myth but the fulfillment of prophecy, pushing back against both Jewish objections and pagan imitations, while exposing how easily people twist Scripture when it confronts them. Augustine then pulls the whole thing inward, showing what happens when that truth finally lands in the soul—rest is found not in argument, but in the unchanging God Himself. And Aquinas brings precision to what both are circling: grace is not optional—it is necessary for every step, from the first movement toward God to the final perseverance in Him.
