Mamdani scrapped IHRA, kept antisemitism enforcement, and therefore has stripped Israel of the leverage it used to shut debate down. Right, so Zohran Mamdani has just taken office and, with one administrative move, made it impossible for New York’s institutions to keep pretending that antisemitism and the defence of Israel are the same thing — and Israel’s political ecosystem is now stuck dealing with that separation whether it likes it or not. That’s the outcome, and the people most affected aren’t activists on the street, they’re the officials, donors, administrators and lobby groups who relied on a definition to shut arguments down before they started.
