Episode 47: Linnea-sode (Slow Bloom) {Art Show/ Fundraiser}
So in this episode, John takes the lead and asks about Linnea's current hybrid art show/ fundraiser. Linnea has 8 original collages up for grabs, and discusses them with John. John enthusiastically shares his impressions of each piece, often providing new / fresh persepctives on her pieces. The 8 pieces they discuss are from the collection Slow Bloom, collections and reflections on the slow process of healing/ growing. (Oddly enough Linnea often accidentally calls the show Slow Burn, a good opposing slip of the tongue.) Check out the art online here. Raffle tickets are 1 for 2$ or 15 for 10$ All money raised will be going to A New Day, an Ottawa based organization that supports individuals who have experienced exploitation or trafficking. Also, they get slightly off topic after the finish talking about the art pieces, as we do, this was the first episode they recorded without having an outline, John took the read on coming up with the questions. Thanks again for listening! <123 J&L Ps. the art therapy podcast that gets mentioned at the end of the episode is here, it is called the Creative Collective Podcast pss. editor here, I intentionally left snippets in that John told me to take out, cause he won't even know. tehe its giving (sic)
Episode 46: Allow Us to Reintroduce Ourselves
Ok, so it’s been a minute. Many of them. But we are back. In this episode Linnea and John recap what their lives have been like in the last month(ish). John went to Portugal, saw his bestie get married and got to reunite with heaps of his army buddies. In his element he was surrounded by those who love and support him. We love this for him. Throughout the episode he shares about his adventures in rural Portugal and the joy he gets from helping out and making the things around him better. Linnea shares her experiences of going to Paris. (She ends up finding a gluten free bakery and spends 9 euros on a croissant, silly girl, I hope it was worth it). Their energy and enthusiasm is contagious in this episode. They enthuse about upcoming projects and possible future collabs. If this if your first episode, you are in for a treat.
Episode 45: Dating?! In this Economy?!
In this episode, John and Linnea chat about the sometimes strange world of dating. they share tales of past experiences and things that they have each learned to look out for. Dating "advice" get sprinkled throughout the episode, be mindful with it. They also start a list in their phones called "how to not ghost someone. But if all else fails, you can buy the Ghost Them Back phone case on our online store. Right? In this episode we learn John's belief of men who read, and let me tell you now, he is totally off the (book)mark. Long story short, have fun and be safe. Your gut might be onto something! *ps. We had some recording issues in this episode, if the audio sounds off, you are probably right. Sorry, we don't really know what we are doing and we are trying our best. Thanks for listening anyways.
Episode 44: Self-Sabotage
In this episode John and Linnea do the hard things, and talk about it. John takes the lead on reading out the written questions, and Linnea does her best at not laughing at him. They talk about when their self-sabotage comes out, and discuss whether there are tell tale signs that it may pop up. They talk about the value of rest, and how sometimes pushing through isn't the answer. (Linnea has not quiet figures that one out yet, but give her time). Embarrassment comes up, as it always does, a side effect of getting out of your comfort zone. Linnea shares her new trick for helper her feel less embarrassed in various moments. (spoiler alert, it is very much about Fight Club). Shout out to Beaver Boxing in Ottawa for making space for Linnea. If you have ever sabotaged yourself and maybe still getting over it, this might be the episode for you.
Episode 43: Embracing Failure
In this episode John and Linnea exchange their most shareable failures. Cringe? Embarrassing? Questionable? Yep, we got you covered? Why? Because we know we learn from failure if you let it be so. We grown when we learn. So yeah, embrace failure if you can? The episode goes back to moving through the discomfort, and knowing that it is only temporary. It is ok to linger in the ick, but maybe we don't wanna stay there for long? Cause what comes after the ick, what comes after we do the thing we were avoiding? mystery If you are wallowing in self-pity/shame/guilt? This might be the episode for you.
Episode 42: Aaron-Sode (Getting Back Up)
In this episode John and Linnea meet with legendary maritime boxer, Arron Kinch. Boxing since age ten, this guys episode really backs some punch. Have you ever waited two weeks to seek out medical attention after breaking your back? Well we don't recommend it, and neither does Aaron, and he speaks from experience. Aaron is not only a tough fighter, but an awesome coach to many, of all ages and abilities? Think you are too old to start boxing, tell that to one of Aaron's athletes who started boxing in their 90's. Aaron teaches us that it is never to late to try something new. He also shows us the power of getting back up. Never stop fighting, cause you never know where you might end up.
Episode 41: Taylor-Sode (Living the Good Life)
In this episode, we sit down with the incredibly multi-talented Taylor. Honestly, it would probably take a full hour just to list all the things she’s accomplished. Taylor is a proud Mi'kmaw women, national wrestler, a wrestling coach, a talented multimedia artist, a brand ambassador, a natural storyteller, and a proud dog mom. She also happens to do a very convincing impression of male wrestlers. Oh, and she’s a TV show winner too — seriously. Taylor originally connected with John through the wrestling world, and in this conversation she shares stories from her journey in the sport, including making it to Worlds twice. Taylor speaks candidly about the role failure has played in her growth, and how resilience, persistence, and learning to get back up again are all part of the process. Throughout the episode, the idea of balance keeps resurfacing. Together, they explore the many ways people define health and success, and how sometimes the most important thing is simply returning to who we are at our core. Stay tuned for some shout-outs at the end.
Episode 40: Growth
In this episode, John and Linnea talk about the many aspects of growth. John shares his stories of his physical growth from scronny teenager to muscle man (with scronny teenager legs). They discuss what helps us grow (what stops growth) and stress the importance of community in keeping moment and consistency. They talk about learning, and challenges they have overcome. They get a tad vulnerable and weird. But hey, they have come far enough with the pod that they can do that now. This is the episode where they realize that they are no longer nervous before recording. When they are recording, they are having a good time. They feel confident and secure enough (even when reading out loud for the first time). We hope you have as much fun listening to this, as we did recording. <123 Thanks for sticking around.
Episode 39: Fake it 'Till You Make It
In this episode John and Linnea discuss confidence. Or they try to at least. They go off book of course. Topics that surface in discussion included imposter syndrome and how each of them navigated the times in their lives when they were struggling to feel confident in their tasks. Take homes -encourage your friends and neighbours to Mae art -stay consistent, sometimes just showing up is all we have to do -the key to success is to have fun while working at it, and don’t be afraid to walk away -know that you can get past "the break" -confidence grows in discomfort**** yes please?
