On January 13, 1831, Parley P. Pratt, Oliver Cowdery, and other early Latter-day Saint missionaries arrived in Independence, Missouri, after traveling nearly 1,500 miles to preach the gospel to Native American tribes on the western frontier. Enduring extreme winter conditions, hunger, and exhaustion, they faithfully taught the Book of Mormon and shared messages of hope and restoration, gaining the trust of tribal leaders along the way. Their sacrifices helped lay the foundation for future Church growth in Ohio and the West, reminding us in His Story that missionary work requires dedication, faith, and a willingness to serve others—inviting us today to share the gospel in our own ways.
