Walt Disney, born December 5, 1901, became one of the world’s best-known creators through his pioneering work in animation, earning 26 Academy Awards and developing beloved characters like Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Pluto, and Goofy. From childhood newspaper routes to art studies, ambulance service in World War I, and early animation experiments like Laugh-o-Grams and Alice in Cartoonland, Disney refined his craft with the help of his brother Roy and artist Ub Iwerks, eventually launching Mickey’s success in Steamboat Willie.
