We explore a public health story from the past to help us understand the present. In this episode, I share the story of Hungarian doctor Ignaz Semmelweis who became known as the 'saviour of mothers' through his discovery of using antiseptics in hospitals, in this case, during childbirth.

I use this story to demonstrate how it sometimes helps to step back from the question, 'what am I doing wrong?' to ask the question, 'what am I not doing at all?'
