In Episode 16, we discussed separation. Today, in Episode 17, we look at a situation no property owner hopes to face—transferring ownership after death.

When a property owner passes away, the title deed does not automatically transfer to the heirs. The owner's name remains on the register until ownership is formally re-registered. Until then, the property cannot usually be sold, mortgaged, or transferred, regardless of whether the family agrees on who should inherit it.
