Notas del episodio
Conversations around the primary election process in the United States continue to intensify, particularly around whether states should use open or closed primaries. A growing number of reform movements have pushed states with closed systems to consider opening participation to independents and unaffiliated voters. Closed primaries are often criticized for excluding these voters and potentially limiting participation in the only meaningful contests in heavily partisan states. In this episode I discuss how primary elections work in the United States, the differences between open and closed systems, and the arguments on both sides of the debate.
