We don't see them very often any longer but silk poppy flowers with a tag that read the above motto used to be handed out each year in May in observation of what is now more often called "Memorial Day."
It was originally called "Decoration Day" or "National Day of Remembrance." And instead of being "celebrated," it is a day set aside to honor those who gave their lives in military service to our country. In this podcast, we reach back into history to research the origin and importance of the day.
For some, it means the beginning of summer. To others, a time to get together with family/friends for a bar-b-cue. To some, it's a three-day weekend.
