The Very Cranky Bear is a popular children's picture book by Nick Bland. It follows four animal friends—a lion, moose, zebra, and sheep—who try to shelter from the rain. They disturb a sleeping bear, who chases them away. The friends assume he is cranky because he doesn't look like them and try to "cheer him up" by giving him a mane, antlers, and stripes. Only the modest sheep realizes the bear simply wants a quiet place to sleep and clips her wool to make him a pillow, finally allowing him to rest.
