The full plot gets walked through, from teenage Thor chafing at staged arena bouts to the stowaway voyage into Jotunheim, the recovery of the Sword of Surtur, the detour through the Valkyries' realm, and Algrim's late turn that puts Odin on his back and Asgard under siege. Comic roots are traced to Thor: Son of Asgard, a 2004 to 2005 Marvel Age series written under the pseudonym Akira Yoshida, with Balder swapped out for the Warriors Three, who first appeared in Journey into Mystery number 119 in August 1965 and were visually modeled on Errol Flynn, Charles Bronson, and Shakespeare's Falstaff.
