The Unofficial Birthday - Rethinking America 250
Cue the fireworks and cheers, it's our 250th birthday! But let's be real, there's more to our story than just everything 1776 and after. Join us for a minute as we talk about what we're missing and what we might include. In this July 4th episode of Resistance Rangers on the Air, we explore the complexities behind the America 250 celebration, the contradictions of our founding ideals, and why telling the full story matters. Public lands preserve more than beautiful landscapes- they hold the layered histories of resilience, resistance, and the ongoing pursuit of justice. Tune in this July 4 as we look beyond the fireworks and reflect on the stories that deserve to be remembered. Y'all be safe out there, and don't forget to hydrate! The Fired Probie Survey
In early 2025, the DOGE-led "shock-and-awe" campaign purged thousands of probationary employees under the false pretense of poor performance. Host Maisaura joins Momo, Anna, GreenBrier, and Christa to break down the Fired Probie Survey, a survey created by a group of fired probationary employees across various agencies to document the psychological and professional toll of their terminations. This episode exposes the data behind these illegal removals and the human cost of treating public servants as administrative clutter. To see the results, visit the survey website linked below and keep resisting. https://www.27uNIHted.org/probationaryhome Learn more about Resistance Rangers at https://www.resistancerangers.org/ Today's music: "Who Put The Western In My Spaghetti" - Giorgio di Campo "Louisiana Morning" - Wooster27 Stay hydrated, leave no trace, and ranger on!
Save Our Signs & Avenging The Ancestors Coalition
What do we do to stop the erasure of history and science at our parks? It’s been a terrible year for public lands and those who love them. Every day there is a new, horrible thing to be sad and angry about. But there is so much you can do! We talk to brilliant, inspiring grass roots organizers from Save Our Signs and Avenging the Ancestors Coalition about the ongoing saga of the President’s House in Philadelphia and how we can save our signs across the country. Got signs to add? Here's where to submit: https://sites.google.com/umn.edu/save-our-signs Want to get involved with ATAC in Philadelphia? https://www.avengingtheancestors.com/ Learn more about our mission at www.resistancerangers.org. The "Valentine's Day Massacre" - One Year Later
On Valentine's Day 2025, thousands of probationary federal employees were illegally fired, including rangers in the National Park Service. This was a cruel act, ending the careers of many passionate and skilled employees before they could truly start. Today, we honor and remember them by sharing their stories, and we will continue to fight for them. ***Correction!!! Around minute 44 or so, we mistakenly state that NOAA offered probationary workers the chances to be reinstates with backpay. Unfortunately, only a handful of people, roughly 40 instead of hundreds, were brought back who were considered to have passed their probationary period from the time of the initial and second firings. So sorry!*** www.resistancerangers.org Music credits go to: "Who Put The Western In My Spaghetti" - Giorgio di Campo Available on Pixabay: "Leave Without Me" - Geoff Harvey "Broken Sonata" - Clavier Music "Autumn Forest" - folk_acoustic "The Collapse" - nakaradaalexander "Tranquil Fields" - nakaradaalexander "My Goodness What Have They Done" - Alban_Gogh "Forest of Dreams" - folk_acoustic "Guitar Instrumental Background" - noisysymphony "Spring Forest Campfire" - Soundreality Stay safe and ranger on!

Shutdown Edition! AMA and Stories of Shutdowns Past
Explícito
On October 3rd we did an Ask Me Anything on Reddit and Instagram. Now, in case you missed it, here's some of your questions and the answers we had for you! Some of our rangers have been around for a hot minute, and they wanted to share a couple of stories for all of us going through it for the first time. Contains some swearing. We're a little fed up. NPS Fundamentals Training: A Eulogy
On August 25, 1916, President Woodrow Wilson signed the Organic Act, which created the National Park Service. We therefore celebrate this event, called "Founder's Day" each year on August 25 in all of America's national parks to recognize our origins. Now, in honor of Founder's Day, we're taking this chance to recognize a precious (and now former) institution of the NPS. The Horace Albright Training Center (HOAL) trained rangers for decades. It was the beating heart of the NPS where the next generation learned to protect parks, history, and people, and how each of us fits into the success of our agency. Now it’s closed. This isn’t just an internal loss. It’s a blow to our parks, our public lands, and the communities they serve “The NPS didn’t just shoot itself in the foot; it shot itself in the heart.” - HOAL Instructor You can see more memories here: https://www.resistancerangers.org/hoal-memories Happy Birthday, National Park Service. Censorship, SO 3431, & Muir Woods
We’re shining a light on some recent impacts to your public lands! On May 20, DOI Secretary Doug Burgum issued Secretarial Order 3431 - “Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History”. SO 3431 required all NPS sites to report any monument, memorial, statue, marker, or sign that “inappropriately disparages Americans past or living”. Without formal guidance, some park sites complied... and some did not. The reports were made, the consequences are here, and the cavalry is not coming to save us.
