Warm air is riding up and over cold air still parked at the surface. That collision is why you're hearing freezing rain tick against your windows. We picked up just over an inch of snow overnight. Temperatures bottomed out at 28 degrees before dawn. Now we're stuck in that nasty in between zone. In the next 24 hours., A Winter Weather Advisory holds for northwest Rhode Island until 7 A.M. Wednesday. Untreated roads and sidewalks will be slick tonight. That's not a maybe. Providence, you'll want to watch for freezing rain mixing with plain rain before 10 P.M.
