Every person pours their life out on something, and the real question is whether it will last. Writing from a prison cell while facing execution, Paul charges Timothy with three words that carry the weight of eternity: preach the word. This charge is not reserved for pastors or people with a platform. It belongs to every follower of Christ, in every ordinary place God has already placed them. Paul describes his own life as a drink offering poured out on the worthy foundation of Christ's finished work. He looks back with peace, calling it a beautiful fight and a worthy race. A crown of righteousness awaits not because of anything Paul earned, but because of Christ's righteousness applied to him. Whatever we keep for ourselves will evaporate, but whatever we pour out on this altar will prove to have been worth it.
