Pablo Picasso reinvented art more times than any other painter in history — Cubism, collage, assemblage, neoclassicism — and left a trail of psychological destruction through the lives of nearly every woman who loved him. Two of his partners attempted suicide, one died in a psychiatric hospital, and his grandson swallowed bleach after being barred from his funeral. The greatest artist of the twentieth century was also, by overwhelming testimony, one of its cruelest men.
