Encouraged by Persecution? - Werner 19/07/26

Werner preaches after David reads the scriptures. Here are the scriptures and questions for further personal thought: Matthew 5:10-16 10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. Salt and Light 13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. 14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. 1 Peter 4:12–14: “Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice because you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.” Acts 5:40-42, 40 His speech persuaded them. They called the apostles in and had them flogged. Then they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. 41 The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name. 42 Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Messiah. QUESTIONS Do we need to prepare for Persecution? If so, how could we do this? Which Bible verse(s) could be an anchor to hold us to Jesus in time of Persecution? Do you have a specific verse that helps you in case of hardship/difficulties? Have you every suffered rejection becaues of your Faith in Christ? Can you share about this? What does it mean to be a "Fragrance of Christ", can you give examples how this could look in day to day living? (2 Cor 2:14-16)

Life Together: Accepting One Another - Pastor Dan Foster 12/07/26

Erine reads Romans 15:1-13 and Pastor Dan Foster closes the Life Together series in Romans, speaking of accepting one another. There are several testimonies at the end of the podcast. Further questions and thoughts that you might find helpful are: Can you think of a ‘neighbour’ of yours whom you can encourage and build up? ‘Christ became a servant’ - what do you think about the idea that we worship a King who is also a servant? ‘Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you’. Do you really believe that by God’s grace you are accepted by him? Can you think of Christian(s) whom you find it difficult to accept? Does it help to remember that Christ has accepted them? Choose one of the ‘impartations’ - from either verses 5-6 or verse 13 of the passage above. Speak it over yourself slowly, repeating it several times. Let it sink in. What is God saying to you through this?

Sue reads Romans 14:13-23 and Pastor Dan Foster speaks on keeping 'the main thing' the main thing at Pembury Baptist Church on 5th July 2026. Questions to challenge and give extra thought: ‘Let’s keep the main thing the main thing.’ How might you sum up the core message of the gospel in one sentence? Can you think of a time when you changed your mind on a certain issue? What was it that made you change your mind? Can you see God at work at the moment, either in your own life or in the lives of those around you? How could you encourage and build up others in their faith? ‘For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit’. Try to memorise this verse. What does it mean to you?
