In Job 3 we have the first of nineteen speeches in the book of Job. Job speaks first, third, fifth, seventh, ninth, eleventh, thirteenth, fifteenth and seventeenth. While Job has the first speech, he doesn’t have the last word, because the final and nineteenth, speech in the book is that of God’s.
In this primary speech, Job curses the day he was born. His speech can be summarised by saying “I wish I was never born.” It reflects one of the saddest chapters in scripture. If one can lose such hope from temporal suffering, imagine eternal suffering.
