The Great Ends of the Church (Part 6)

The sixth and final great end of the Church is the exhibition of the Kingdom of Heaven to the world. The kingdom of heaven (or the kingdom of God, depending on which gospel you're reading) is Jesus's preferred way of speaking about what the world will be like when God's work is complete. It will be a topsy-turvy world full of reversals—the blind will see, the lost will be found, and the last will be first. In what is surely the most challenging of all of the great ends, the church is called to embody this upside-down reality. We are called to live according to a different set of rules, and in so doing, demonstrate that a better world is possible.
