In this ep, we discuss an unfortunately common practice seen in many evangelical and fundamentalist expressions of Christianity. A near direct descendant of St Augustine’s doctrine of Original Sin and Calvin’s concept of Total Depravity, the act of discouraging congregants from trusting their own lived experiences and emotions - while at the same time asserting a narrative that directly contradicts those lived experiences/emotions - is just one form of gaslighting that we cover in this conversation.
