Genetics Policy with Dr. Katie Hasson
Genetics PhD student Christina Del Greco interviews Dr. Katie Hasson, PhD, and Anna Fang, an undergraduate intern studying molecular and cell biology. Katie is a former associate professor of sociology and gender studies at the University of Southern California, and is currently the Program Director on Genetic Justice at the Center for Genetics and Society (learn more at www.geneticsandsociety.org), where she studies the social and political issues surrounding genetics and reproductive technologies such as heritable human genome editing.
Homelessness and Housing Policy with Dr. Charley Willison
Public Health undergraduate, Naquia Unwala, interviews Dr. Charley Willison, PhD, MPH, MA, a political scientist studying the relationships between urban politics, and public health political decision-making or policy outcomes. Dr. Willison's work focuses on health policies that are designed and or delivered at the local level. This includes homelessness, housing, behavioral health policies and disaster responses. She is now a National Institutes of Mental Health Postdoctoral Fellow at the Harvard University Department of Health Care Policy where she is studying political decision-making in supportive housing policy. She hopes to improve policy design and implementation to create more effective and equitable public health policies. Her book, "Ungoverned and Out of Sight", examining homeless policy decision-making and the public health implications of these choices, was released earlier this year with Oxford University Press.
Food Policy with Sheila Fleischhacker
MPH Nutritional Sciences student Anthony De Cicco interviews Sheila Fleischhacker, PhD, JD, RN and Megan Reynolds, MPH Nutritional Sciences student. Sheila has worked at the Illinois State Board of Education, the Institute of Food Technologies, the National Institute of Health, and the United States Department of Agriculture. She has also taught courses at Georgetown University and the University of North Carolina. Lastly, she founded Fly Health, LLC to consult government stakeholders on agriculture, food, nutrition, and health policy, and co-founded HER NOPREN WIC Learning Collaborative.
