In Part Two, Connie and I discuss the profound intergenerational trauma experienced by residential school survivors and day scholars, and how it rippled through families. Indigenous children were removed from their homes like hostages; many disappeared while enrolled, while others endured severe physical, psychological, and cultural abuse.

Unlike residential students, day scholars attended federally operated schools during the day and returned home at night. Though unrecognized for decades, they suffered many of the same grave harms—including the forced loss of language and culture.
