Born and raised in Los Angeles to Salvadoran immigrant parents, Steven grew up navigating the space between his life in LA and his connection to El Salvador. Those experiences eventually led him to found AFJA, a nonprofit that uses soccer as a platform for youth development, education, leadership, and community empowerment. In 2019, Steven was named the MLS WORKS Community MVP, earning a $25,000 grant in recognition of his work.
