Church discipline can sound harsh, controlling, or even abusive.
And sadly, it has sometimes been practiced that way.
But that is not the picture Scripture gives us.
Jesus describes a patient process of personal confrontation in Matthew 18. Galatians 6 calls believers to restore someone caught in sin with gentleness. First Corinthians 5 shows that persistent, unrepentant sin can harm the whole body. And 2 Corinthians 2 reminds us that when repentance comes, discipline should give way to forgiveness, comfort, and reaffirmed love.
