Blind Guides: Canaanite Woman's Faith (Mt 15)
One of my favorite images for the Pharisees. Also, does Jesus turn over all the Food Laws of the Old Law? The Canaanite women comes to Jesus for a healing but gets called a dog. Why does Jesus insult her like this?
Law of Death: Pharisees and Washing Hands (Mt 15)
In Matthew 15 the Pharisees confront Jesus about washing hands. Jesus confronts them about honoring Father and Mother, but it's hard to parse what he means. Isaiah 27-29 hold the clue for the story, destruction is coming!
The Rich Young Man: Wealth and the Gospel (Mt 19)
The story of the rich young man is one the most difficult in the Gospels. Christ calls the young man to give away his possessions to be perfect, but he goes away grieving. Does Jesus then condemn wealth? Jesus says that it is easier for a camel to go through an eye of a needle than a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Is Christ calling for class warfare?
The Mustard Seed: How to Destroy Kingdoms (Mt 13, 17, Mk 11)
This is one of my favorites! How the parable of mustard seed in Matthew 13 has enormous importance for the gospel message. Jesus casts out a demon from a boy in Matthew 17 and tells the apostles to have faith as a mustard seed. But why? In Mark 11, Christ uses the image of having faith to cast mountains into the sea. How the mustard seed provides the answer. Also, quotations from Psalm 48, Isaiah 2, and Daniel 2.
(Pt. 2) What is a Parable: How David condemns Himself to Die (Mt 13)
David kills Uriah the Hittite and takes his wife Bathsheba in 2 Samuel 12. How Nathan uses a parable to have David condemn himself and his actions. Christ uses the parables likewise to condemn unfaithful Israel.
(Pt. 1) What is a Parable: Jesus Possessed by Satan? (Mt 13)
Part 1 of 2. Why does Jesus switch to parables in Matthew 13? How the opposition of the Pharisees to the mission of Christ provides the answer.
(Pt. 3) The Son of Man: Judgement of the Nations (Mt 25)
Part 3 of 3. The Son of Man judges the nations and separates them into sheep and goats in Matthew 25. How are they distinguished? How they treated the Christians is the answer. Social salvation of the Church vs Individual salvation.
(Pt. 2) The Son of Man: Coming on the Clouds of Heaven (Mt 26)
This is Part 2 of 3. Daniel's prophecies are immense in their prophetic scope. How there is a timetable set out to predict the coming of the son of man and how the four empires will be overcome by the Saints of the Most High.
(Pt. 1) The Son of Man: The Ultimate Blasphemy (Mt 26)
This episode is part 1 of 3. Caiaphas the High Priest tears his priestly garment when Christ declares he is the Son of Man in Matthew 26. Why does he take this title so seriously? Daniel 7 and 9 hold the answer. Prepare yourself for an intense two part episode
Who is Peter's father, Jonah or John? (Matthew 16)
Why does Jesus call Peter Simon son of Jonah in Matthew 16 when in John 21 Peter is called Simon son of John? How the book of Jonah might provide the answer...
