We highly recommend reading the book before the film! We chatted about our disappointment in not reading the book before watching the film, the story of a young woman going under trial for murder, the theme of the crawdads, and their endurance for survival. Temporada 2
Episode Ten: "Luca" | "Soul" 🧜‍♂️♫
In this final episode of Season Two in the Every Shade Podcast we couldn't have found a more fitting theme: Disney's Pixar Films. "Luca" is a coming-of-age film about two sea monster children who find adventure in a small fishing village in Italy. "Soul" is a movie that we can only explain as a wonderful interpretation of a "love letter to life itself". Both films have made an impact on the hosts, Hanjie & Keisha, and we invite you to listen to our final episode of season two. Stay tuned on @darkbrownchannel for future updates. Enjoy with a bowl of pasta, a glass of wine, and a love for life.
Episode Nine: "In The Heights" | "The Mirror Has Two Faces" 🗽
This episode accidentally became a New York-themed episode! "In the Heights" is a musical that takes place near 181st Street in New York City. The vibrancy of this film captures the essence of New York's truest nature with a melting pot of various characters going through a heatwave. This film hits close to home with knowing you who truly are and embracing your background with a positive future. "The Mirror Has Two Faces" is a film by Barbra Streisand from 1996. Two people seek a platonic relationship but suddenly one of the partners wants more, questioning the type of relationship they're aiming for. Love, sex, and dating - what more could you want?!
Episode Eight: Studio Ghibli Episode! | "The Wind Rises" | "When Marnie Was There" ✈️
It's a Studio Ghibli Episode! Hanjie and Keisha watched "The Wind Rises" and "When Marnie Was There" back to back. "The Wind Rises" is a fictional animation based on historical events and a real-life aviation engineer who is known for creating the A6M World War II fighter plane. "When Marnie Was There" follows a young girl with health problems who moves from the city to a small town and befriends another girl, revealing their lives the deeper their friendship becomes. Listen to the end to get a little sneak peek of the next episode!
Episode Seven: Review of "Friends Reunion" & "The Tale of The Princess Kaguya 🥰
It would be a lie for us to say that Friends had not impacted our lives in the 90s. Watching the Friends Reunion was so heartwarming and fun we just HAD to chat about it! We breeze through the moments we loved, and the ones we weren't moved by (hey, it happens!). Afterward, we review a film by Studio Ghilbi, The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, which received 100% on Rotten Tomatoes (for good reasons too!). And for a little bonus (which happens at the intro) we chat about our deep love for Mare of Easttown.
Episode Six: Film Review of "Weathering with You" | also "Handsome Devil" 🏉
Hi everyone! In this episode, Hanjie & Keisha start off with a well-notable Japanese animation fantasy film: Weathering With You. This film came out in 2019 after the popular Your Name film. This visually beautiful film directed by Makoto Shinkai with music by Radwimps. We reviewed The Garden of Words, another film by Makoto Shinkai, in Episode One of the Every Shade Podcast. After Weathering With You we jump into an Irish-comedic film Handsome Devil directed by John Butler and starring Fionn O’Shea, Nicholas Galitzine, and Andrew Scott. (Yes, we do fangirl over Andrew Scott A LOT!) Oh, and you DEFINITELY would want to listen to the podcast to the VERY end because we give a fun little sneak peek to Episode Seven. A little hint: it’s about watching and reviewing a few people who come together for a reunion ;) FOLLOW US! @darkbrownchannel @chowchowchowy @keishabissram MUSIC: Will You Be Mine - Broke in Summer
Episode Five: Film Review of "Another Round" | also "Avengers: Infinity War" & "Avengers: Endgame" 🦸
Here is a full review of "Another Round". Filmed in Denmark, we follow four teachers who test the creative theory of drinking while at work. We end up learning both the struggles and celebration of life between the love and friendship between the four teachers. Later in the episode, although Keisha is LATE to the game, she FINALLY catches up with the Avengers films and chats about her experience with Hanjie. In the last episode, she did mention her love for all superhero films has faded away a few years ago. So did she end up liking or hating Infinity War and Endgame? Only one way to find out! Listen to Episode Five now!
Episode Four: Film Review of "Always Be My Maybe" | also "Nomadland" and "Another Round" 🍻
In this episode, we aimed to review "Always Be My Maybe" and "Another Round". Due to technical difficulties, Hanjie didn't make it to "Another Round", but we accidentally ended up doing a short review on "Nomadland"! (All three great films!) In the middle of all our reviews, we also caught up on life since we haven't spoken via podcast in about two weeks. This uncut episode is jammed packed with random life updates, pretentious restaurant presentations, kitchen scissors, and much more.
