Chapters 15-17 show the steady collapse of the northern kingdom of Israel and the spiritual compromise spreading in Judah. In 2 Kings 16, Ahaz of Judah turns to Assyria for help and copies pagan worship. In 2 Kings 17, Israel finally falls to Assyria because the people refused God’s repeated warnings.

The simple truth is this: God is patient, but persistent rebellion eventually brings consequences.
