2 Samuel 2-4 show David beginning to step into what God promised him, but the kingdom does not come all at once. David becomes king over Judah, but not yet over all Israel. Saul’s house grows weaker, David’s house grows stronger, and ambitious men try to force outcomes through rivalry, revenge, and murder.

The simple truth is this: God’s promises do not need human manipulation to come to pass. When people do not trust God’s timing, they often try to help God with sinful methods.
