AMD Unveils New AI Chips at CES

What happened

AMD used its CES stage in Las Vegas to show off new AI chips aimed at data centres and PCs, spotlighting the Instinct MI455 AI processors that go into rack-scale systems being sold to customers including OpenAI. OpenAI President Greg Brockman appeared with AMD CEO Lisa Su, underscoring the strategic importance of AMD’s roadmap.

AMD also introduced the MI440X, an “enterprise/on-prem” AI chip meant to fit more easily into general business data-centre environments (not purpose-built AI clusters), and previewed a next-gen MI500 family that AMD says is slated for 2027.
