Why Bitcoin Clicked for a Football Coach (And the ColdCard Wallet Hack) | BitLovin 001
Welcome to the first episode of the BitLovin Podcast. Timot walks through how he got here — a 2014 article that went nowhere, accidentally buying Bitcoin Cash in 2018 thinking it was a cheap version of Bitcoin, and then watching Silicon Valley Bank fail from the inside. That last one is what made it click: a good company with happy clients went down purely over how it held its reserves, and the clients holding Bitcoin could still pay people that Friday. This show is for anyone who feels there's a veil between them and understanding Bitcoin. If a football coach can figure it out, so can you. Then into the news: the ColdCard hack. We cover what a hardware wallet actually stores (your private keys, not your Bitcoin), why seed phrases have to be truly random, and how low-entropy seeds let attackers derive private keys straight from addresses. If you have an MK3 or newer and didn't use dice rolls or a passphrase, your funds may be at risk — move them. We also get into why broadcasting that rescue transaction to the mempool can get you sniped via RBF, how a service like Slipstream avoids it, and why a multisig split across different manufacturers is the real protection against a single-vendor failure. THE CURRENCY OF THE CLOCK | READ
In this episode, Timot Lamarre (former football coach at Stanford and MIT, ex-Silicon Valley Bank) reads his latest Bitcoin and Football article, "The Currency of the Clock." Using a football timeout as the central metaphor, Timot breaks down how disciplined teams save timeouts for critical moments, and what happens when the rules change mid-game and everyone suddenly gets unlimited timeouts. It's a way to understand monetary inflation: how expanding the money supply quietly transfers value from savers to debtors, why high time preference takes hold when saving is disincentivized, and why bitcoin's fixed, unchangeable rule set (no one, not governments, not central banks, can alter the supply) makes it fundamentally different from fiat currency. Timot closes with a quick note on what's coming next for the show. Links: Substack: BitcoinAndFootball.substack.com TikTok: @Bit.Lovin YouTube: @Bit_Lovin Instagram: @Bit_Lovin X: @TimotLamarre
